In this fast-growing field, you’ll study and research a variety of biomedical topics, from organ systems and diseases to molecular biology. Throughout the course, you’ll develop the analytical skills needed for research, understand how biomedical science is used to diagnose and treat diseases and apply your knowledge in clinical lab settings.
You’ll cover important healthcare topics like infectious diseases, cancer, and heart disease. In your final year, you’ll focus on clinical laboratory work, guided by current professionals. You’ll also have the chance to do independent research projects on topics that interest you, supported by leading academics, on subjects ranging from Alzheimer’s to the Zika virus.

- You can become eligible to apply to the HCPC Register by completing an HCPC-approved Certificate of Competence portfolio with the IBMS, which can be done during an optional placement year.
- You’ll study a wide range of current and advanced topics in Biomedical Science, including anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, cell biology, microbiology, and the analytical skills of modern biomedical science.
- Gain industry experience during an optional placement year. Our students have worked in NHS laboratories and research labs at organizations like the London School of Hygiene, Tropical Medicine, and Public Health England, and even internationally.
