This course will inspire you to explore new and diverse ways to use sustainable textiles, encouraging you to push the limits of textile design and production. With support from passionate academics, you’ll develop advanced technical skills—from design and development to construction and product testing—while critically examining the ethical and environmental impact of design. You’ll gain a unique and innovative vision for applying textile materials.

 

The course is designed with industry input and constantly evolves to meet industry demands. Throughout your studies, you’ll work closely with industry through coursework, guest talks, company trips, live projects, and competitions, providing networking opportunities and helping you develop skills that employers value.

- Bring your ideas to life in our award-winning Vijay Patel building, which offers extensive facilities for textile dyeing, finishing, and printing. You’ll also have access to one of the only university-owned, fully climate-controlled textile testing labs in the UK, where you can experiment, prototype, and test materials, products, and processes.
- Benefit from the expertise of the Textile Engineering and Materials (TEAM) Research Group, which contributes directly to the course content. Their research covers areas like textile processing, biodegradable and compostable textiles, healthcare textiles, performance textiles, and sustainable practices.
- Showcase your work in DMU’s The Gallery, which attracts industry visitors and the public, or at Leicester’s LCB Depot during Fashion Season, where you can present your final-term work.

- Enhance your studies with an optional year-long work placement, gaining valuable practical and professional skills. Past students have taken on diverse roles, from Fashion Designer in Residence at Heathfield School, Ascot, to Quality Administrator at Baltex, Nottingham, a leading supplier of high-performance technical textiles.
